Located in Toronto’s beautiful Annex neighbourhood, the Women’s Art Association of Canada (WAAC) is a not-for-profit, member-supported, charitable organization dedicated to assisting and encouraging Canadian artists. (Click for Membership). Over its 130 year history it has served as a haven for visual artists, musicians, writers and devotees of the arts — a place where like-minded people can meet in a welcoming environment.
Since 1948 the Association has offered a scholarship program to students in the arts. Currently Women’s Art funds seventeen scholarships at seven leading arts organizations that include Canada’s National Ballet School, the Royal Conservatory of Music and the Ontario College of Art and Design. (Click on Scholarships for a full list).
The heart of the Association is a charming 19th century house that backs onto a lovely formal garden. The main entrance opens up into the Mary Dignam Gallery, a large, attractive room that hosts openings, receptions and, of course, members’ art exhibitions. It is also the venue for our lectures on the arts and concerts. Many of these events are open to the public.
Please see our Rentals page if you are interested in booking our rooms or garden for a wedding or other event.
The mandate of the Women’s Art Association of Canada is to advance education in the visual, musical and performance arts through the funding of scholarships, offering arts education to the public and the provision of space for artists to present their artistic work.
